This is Skellefteå Kraft
Skellefteå Kraft is a whollyowned municipal jointstock company and one of the largest energy companies in Sweden with operations in Skellefteå, Lycksele, Storuman, Sundsvall and Jakobstad, Finland.
With our own energy supplies, personal knowledge and continuous development, we create quality, reliability and competence. This enables us to offer our customers priceworthy and longterm environmentfriendly energy solutions as well as secure and reliable energy deliveries.
The core values that run throughout the company´s operation are reliability, responsibility, drive and proximity. We consist of 650 employees in wholly-owned and partially-owned subsidiaries. The turnover during the year of 2011 was SEK 5.1 billion.
Major producer of renewable electric power
Skellefteå Kraft founded its first power station in Finnfors by the river Skellefteå in 1908. Today, we are the owners of more than 20 power stations along the rivers Skellefteälven, Umeälven, Indalsälven and a few smaller streams, as well as part owners of Sikfors power station on the river Piteälven.
We are also part owners of Forsmark´s nuclear power station and Alholmen´s heating power station in Jakobstad, Finland. In addition, the heating power station production capacity is based on biofuels. All in all, this makes Skellefteå Kraft one the largest producers of electricity in the country. The normal yearly production amounts to 4.4 TWh.

Own networks with reliable service
Skellefteå Kraft distributes and supplies electricity to 64,000 customers within its own grid area, which covers central and northern Västerbotten and southern Lapland. The operation is run within the independent subsidiary Skellefteå Kraft Elnät AB and electricity from 57 different suppliers is distributed within the grid.
The grid’s total length is 12,000 kilometres, of which large parts consist of overhead lines in woodland. The operational reliability is very high as a result of extensive, continuous maintenance of forest routes and a welldeveloped operational surveillance system. Weatherproofing of the power grid has continued during 2011. This is primarily done in two ways: by cables being dug into the ground and by uninsulated overhead lines being replaced with insulated wire.
Heating and cooling in extensive culvert network
Skellefteå Kraft has extensive production, distribution and sales of district heating and cooling. District heating is mainly produced using biofuels at the heating power stations at Hedensbyn in Skellefteå and Malå, as well as Lycksele. In some cases, excess heat is used from larger industries for the production of district heating. Heating is also supplied to customers from about sixty smaller boiler plants.
The number of district heating customers is approximately 7,200 with a sales volume of 690 GWh.

Own production of wood pellets
Next to the heating power station at Hedensbyn in Skellefteå there is a very modern production plant for wood pellets. The raw material is mainly collected from saw mills within the region and consists principally of sawdust.
Our wood pellets are sold to home owners, heating plants, adjacent heating facilities, smaller central heating and district heating networks. Our customers are mainly found in northern Sweden, but considerable amounts are also transported by boat or trailers to larger customers in other parts of the country. During the year 2011 a total of 83,233 tonnes of wood pellets was delivered.

Future communications
Skellefteå Kraft is developing a modern infrastructure for services within telecom and data communications. Our broadband network, SkeKraft.net, is based on strong fibreoptical and radiobased connections. Despite geographical challenges including long distances between households, the broadband network in the Skellefteå municipality is the very best in Sweden. The fibre network is one of the biggest in the country and the number of connections is almost in the same category as Gothenburg.
Premises for rent in expansive district
Skellefteå Kraft administers and leases premises in the Sirius district. An area of 56,700 m2 includes offices, a city library, a hotel, a restaurant and an extensive congress and conference facility.
The district is profiled as the Expolaris Center with an alignment towards service companies, media and culture. The premises have a consistently high standard, modern exterior and interior with highly flexible design. This concept has all in all resulted in a very high degree of leasing.
Expolaris Center
An increase in demand for premises has resulted in plans for further development and expansion of the district with new office buildings in order to strengthen the profile as a growth centre for new service companies. The district has more than a half million visitors per year. We currently lease premises to about 70 company owners.
